چکیده

The brain consists of an enormous number of nerve cells which are interconnected in complex neural circuits. A complete understanding of how an individual neural circuit is constructed during development is a necessary first step in understanding the complex circuitry of the brain. The first level of the olfactory system of the fruitfly Drosophila is one of the most thoroughly investigated neural circuits in terms of its structure and function. However, the mechanisms underlying the generation of neural cells, the specification of different cell types, and the construction of this circuit during still need to be deciphered.
